retired university professor Dr. iur. Erwin Bernat

Erwin Bernat was born on March 26, 1958 in Graz and completed his law studies (1976-1980) at the University of Graz. After completing his doctorate in June 1981, he began his academic career as a university assistant and obtained a teaching license for civil law in 1988 and for Austrian and comparative medical law in 1996. Since 1997, Erwin Bernat has been an associate professor at the Department for Civil Law, Foreign and International Private Law at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz. His research focuses on tort law and medical law as well as bioethics and philosophy of law (habilitation thesis: Rechtsfragen medizinisch assistierter Zeugung, 1988).
