Prof. Dr. Gregor Christandl, LL.M.
After completing his integrated diploma studies in law at the University of Innsbruck (with distinction), Professor Christandl completed his court practice in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Innsbruck. From 2004, he was a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Italian Law at the University of Innsbruck. In 2006, he obtained his doctorate with distinction with a thesis on comparative non-pecuniary damages law.
From 2009 to 2010, he completed a Master's degree at Yale Law School, New Haven (USA). From 2010 to 2012, he was a research assistant and habilitation student with Reinhard Zimmermann at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg. In 2013, he was reappointed to a career position at the Institute for Italian Law in Innsbruck, where he habilitated in 2015 in the subjects of civil law, comparative law and private international law with a historical-comparative thesis on succession law. He has received numerous awards for his academic achievements.
His appointment as Assistant Professor (2013) was followed by his appointment as Associate Professor in February 2017. From March 2017 to the beginning of December 2019, he was Head of the Institute for Italian Law at the University of Innsbruck.
Since 2019, Professor Christandl has been a permanent visiting professor at the Università degli Studi di Padova, since 2020 a member of the doctoral school at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milano and a member of the Academia Internacional de Derecho de Sucesiones, Buenos Aires (Argentina)
In October 2021, Professor Christandl took up the professorship for Civil Law at the University of Graz. Gregor Christandl has been Deputy Head of the Institute since October 2023.
Short Biography
Gregor Christandl has been a full professor at the Institute for Civil Law, Foreign and Private International Law at the University of Graz since October 2021.
Professor Christandl's work focuses on civil law as well as European and international private law. He deals in particular with succession law, tort law and contract law. In all these areas he works on a comparative law basis, with particular emphasis on Italian as well as German, French, English and Spanish law.
