Zur Person

Walter Doralt ist seit Mai 2019 Professor am Institut für Zivilrecht der Universität Graz. Er wurde an der Bucerius Law School in Hamburg 2017 habilitiert (Lehrbefugnis Bürgerliches Recht, Handels- und Gesellschaftsrecht, Internationales Privatrecht, Rechtsvergleichung, Rechtsökonomik). 2018 wurde seine Habilitationsschrift als Monographie im Verlag Mohr Siebeck 2018 veröffentlicht („Langzeitverträge“, 554 S).

Er ist Mitgründer des European Law Institute (ELI). Gemeinsam mit Univ.-Prof. Dr. Susanne Augenhofer, LL.M. (Yale) und Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Koller leitet er seit 2021 das ELI Austrian Hub. Er war von 2011 bis 2019 Mitglied des ELI-Council (Wiederwahl 2015, Mandatsperiode bis 2019) sowie Chair des ELI-Membership Committee.

Die Arbeitsschwerpunkte von Professor Doralt liegen im Bürgerlichen Recht, Unternehmensrecht und Europäischen Privatrecht. Methodisch arbeitet er in diesen Gebieten auch rechtsökonomisch und rechtsvergleichend (Deutschland, England, Frankreich, Italien und Schweiz). An der Universität Graz gehört Walter Doralt seit Oktober 2020 auch dem Arbeitskreis für Gleichbehandlungsfragen, (AKGL) an. Er ist außerdem Vorsitzender der Best of REWI Kommission.

Walter Doralt has been a full Professor at the Institute for Civil Law at the University of Graz since 2019. He completed his “Habilitation” at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg in 2017 (Civil, Corporate and Commercial Law, Comparative and Private International Law, Law and Economics). His postdoctoral thesis (Habilitationsschrift) on Long-Term-Contracts was published as a monograph with Mohr Siebeck in 2018 (Langzeitverträge).

Professor Doralt is a co-founder of the European Law Institute (ELI) based in Brussels, an International Non-Profit-Association (AISBL). He served on the ELI Council from 2011 to 2015 and 2015 to 2019. He also held the role of Chair of the ELI Membership Committee (2011-2019). Together with Professor Susanne Augenhofer and Professor Christian Koller he currently chairs the ELI Austrian Hub.

Main research interests: Civil Law, European Private Law, and Company Law, with methods drawing on Comparative Law (mainly the laws of Germany, England, France, Italy and Switzerland) and Law and Economics.

Professor Doralt is currently also affiliated with the Université Paris II, Panthéon-Assas as a professeur invité (visiting professor) since the year 2019/2020, renewed 2020/2021 and 2021/2022.
